Activities To Enjoy
A private and unique blackwater experience. Our groups are smaller, more fun and less hassle. Our exclusive cave is totally natural, no steel or concrete structures. We guarantee huge glow-worm displays in cathedral-size caverns and a 90% chance of rapids in wet months. Our cave water is warmer even in the winter months.
With an unbelievable 27 meter abseil into a huge chasm in the Earth, experience the refracted light highlighting the amazing plant and rock formations making this a truly awesome descent. Then you will cave upstream to the cathedral-style 400sq meter cavern where you will witness a glow-worm display that will absolutely take your breath away.
This is followed by a blackwater rafting trip downstream floating through caverns filled with more glow-worms that fill the cave with a soft blue light. Then there is the challenge of moving through the cave with the option of squeezing through passages until you reach the exit. The final challenge is a breathtaking 20-metre climb back to the rest of the world where a well-deserved hot shower awaits you.
The ropes course is rigged in trees and the challenges are between 11 and 14 meters above the ground. No prior experience is needed, just an average fitness level and a sense of adventure. Most people complete all the challenges on the course in 3 hours or so, including travel time to and from Waitomo. We provide all the training and safety equipment required - all you need to bring is a raincoat and jersey (just in case!) and a pair of running shoes or similar. Long pants that do not restrict your movement are ideal... we don't recommend jeans. As the ropes course is in a wilderness area and the nearest cafe is a good distance away, you might want to bring something to eat, if you don't enjoy going without food for a few hours. If you have long hair we recommend you have it tied back, or bring a hair-tie. You can bring your camera if you wish, and also a plastic bag to keep it dry in case of rain.
We provide helmets, harness, ropes & hardware, lots of trees and lots of air... you provide the adrenaline, we just help you use it!
Challenges available:
Monkey Tails, Heebee Geebee, Burma Bridge, 12m Swing, Chicken Wire, Trapeze
Hours of spectacular fun that you will remember for the rest of your life
All bedding is provided but no towels or food. The house has a standard kitchen, dining and lounge. We have a large outdoor area for barbeques etc. ( we are in the process of building an outdoor fireplace ) We are 6 km from Waitomo Caves Village and midway between Otorohanga and Te Kuiti. Both towns have supermarkets cafes etc. (Waitomo Village does not have a supermarket) Please note guests must check in before 7pm.
