Hostel Description
Toad Hall backpackers has been a member of the BBH since October 2005 and has been providing budget accommodation for over 12 years for backpackers wanting a couple of nights rest while on their journey, or wanting seasonal accommodation while working in the sunny Hawkes Bay area.

Located right in the centre of Napier city itself, everything is within walking distance, and if you do need transport for getting around you?ll find it is very affordable.
Toad Hall Backpackers Hostel was named after the famous novel "The Wind in the Willows", as Toad was always travelling and meeting great people and feeding and entertaining guests at his house, "Toad Hall".
Over the years
Toad Hall is pre Art Deco meaning it survived the 1931 earthquake which destroyed many buildings. Still standing strong at over 130 years old Toad Hall is in the process of being renovated, creating a more pleasant environment for Backpackers and Holiday makers and bringing it into the 21st century.
Back in the 60?s the building was known as the ?Cabana Bar?. Many Napier residents will remember the good times they had there listening to New Zealand?s most famous bands.
The complex now houses Toad Hall Backpackers, the Willow Art Gallery & Wine Bar and Hell?s Pizza. You can order your Hell?s pizza from the wine bar and enjoy it with a glass of wine, soft music and beautiful art!
Renovations
The owners, Jackie and Terry, bought the Toad Hall Backpackers Hostel in March 2005 and have started extensive renovations to improve the quality of the accommodation.
The outside of the hostel has been painted in the proper Spanish Mission Art Deco colours and most of the downstairs rooms have been re-carpeted and painted. The double rooms even have a TV and a heater!
Future
Toad Hall Backpackers is always open to suggestions on trying to improve the quality and comfort of your stay, everything we do is aimed at making our guests feel welcome and comfortable.
