Hostel Directions
Tramping & the Nydia Track
Te Mahoerangi is located half way along the Nydia Track. The Nydia Track provides a two-day walk crossing the Kaiuma and Nydia saddles and following the sheltered shoreline of historic Nydia Bay. Formed by linking old bridle paths, the 27km track meanders through a variety of native bush and forest. Classified as a tramping track, the Nydia Track is most suited to people with reasonable fitness. Boots are recommended on the well-defined track and because some of the streams are not bridged, care is required when crossing them after heavy rain. The track is also open to mountain bikes. Also to be found in the local area of Nydia Bay are various smaller tracks to water falls, swimming holes, historical relics.
A loop service is available which takes you to the beginning of the track at Shag Point by a short Water Taxi ride from Havelock. Upon completing the track a bus will take you from the end of the track at Duncan Bay back to Havelock. Please contact Rutherford Travel to book on +64 3 574 2104 or email: enquiries@rutherfordtravel.co.nz
