Hostel Description

For over 100 years The Hotel Shamrock has presided majestically over the heart of Bendigo. Its five storeys of grandeur offer entertainment, great dining and accommodation, and the true "Spirit of Bendigo"

While the exterior and the great dimensions of the public rooms are pure 19th century, there is a distinctively Australian feel to its wide encircling veranda - an ideal spot to watch the sunset and enjoy a pre-dinner drink.

Comfortable lounges, a busy café and a variety of accommodation choices enable The Hotel Shamrock to offer first class service in an atmosphere of a bygone era.

The Hotel Shamrock is the jewel in the Crown of Bendigo; an exceptional example of nineteenth century baroque architecture with a distinctive Australian characteristic in its wide encircling verandas.

The early Shamrock prospered, and in 1896 the owners decided that an even grander Shamrock was required, to match the magnificent new buildings along Pall Mall.

A notable part of Bendigo's new grandeur was The Shamrock with its classic Victorian 'Boom' style architecture, balcony and a promenade of over 250 feet and a sumptuous Banquet Hall.

The Hotel Shamrock, as it is now known, with its classic boom style architecture is now one of Australia's most notable historic buildings. The current owners have extensively refurbished the hotel and can now offer guests accommodation, food, beverage, and entertainment with all modern comforts and facilities.
