Welcome to Footprints In The Sand Backapackers & Accommodation in Tokomaru Bay. We are located on the scenic and tranquil East Coast of the North Island (Gisborne/Eastland Region), of New Zealand.

We are 85 kilometers North of Gisborne/Eastland, (first city in the world to see the sun) and 75 kilometres South of East Cape (renown for the worlds most Eastern light house).

Experience New Zealand as it once was, "Tokomaru Bay", a paradise within paradise.

Watch time stand still as you explore local European/Maori history, local art/crafts and buildings, while interacting with the locals.
From our doorstep you will set foot on our golden sandy beach and its 8 kilometers coast line.

Accommodation is available in your choice of dorm room, private room or tent site. We are 5 minutes walk from all local facilities like Supermarket, Pub, Fish n Chip Shop, Hairdressers & Petrol Station.

We have bicycles and kayaks for hire, whilst hammocks, body boards, basketball hoop, soccer table and volley ball is available free of charge. There is also a free barbeque available for all of our guests.

Traveling North from GISBORNE, State Highway 35, you will come into Tokomaru Bay 50kph area, proceed until you reach second bridge, GIVE WAY, go straight ahead then take 1st left, Potae Street, Fifth house on the left. Traveling South from Te Araroa (EAST CAPE) State Highway 35, you will come into Tokomaru Bay 50kph area, see our sign, take 1st left, Tokomaru Street, then 1st right, second house on the right.
