Hostel Description
Eden at Fogg Dam is a great place for birds and wildlife. It?s superbly located on the doorststep of Fogg Dam Nature Reserve, backing onto Harrison Dam and en route to World Heritage Kakadu National Park. Fogg Dam is known internationally as a birdwatcher?s paradise because the diversity of habitat, open water, floodplain, monsoon and paperbark forest environments attracts a wide variety of birds. In season masses of beautiful waterlilies cover water. Sunrise at Fogg Dam is memorable: seeing the sky color with the first light of day and hearing a wonderful dawn chorus of birds. The dam wall (about 1km long) and observation platforms provide excellent viewing of water birds plus frogs, lizards, goanas, turtles, wallabies, dingoes, snakes (mainly water pythons) and perhaps a crocodile. Board walks offer different habitat experiences. The weight of wildlife in 1 square km at Fogg Dam is reputed to be greater than the same area on the Serengeti plains of Africa! Our property is 103 acres (42 hectares) registered with Land for Wildlife with half natural bush and the remainder certified organic tropical fruit farm. We invite you to quality accommodation in the bush in our home of traditional Darwin tropical design: elevated with cross ventilation and a full length veranda upstairs on the sunny side. The spacious, self-contained Tropical Suite downstairs was designed by an award winning architect to ensure cool comfort. Breeze from any direction is captured by windows which give sweeping views across the garden to native bush, birds and wildlife. French doors open onto two verandas which shade the unit throughout the day. Upstairs the Treetop and Garden View Rooms overlook a salt water pool to treetops have a bathroom with shower and spa bath. All areas have overhead fans and air conditioning to ensure your comfort. Quality linen is provided, including bathrobes and pool towels. Breakfasts are special with fresh fruit in season and preserves from our property. Choose a cooked, continental or picnic breakfast. Picnic breakfasts are popular to take to Fogg Dam for sunrise. Special diets can be accommodated with 48 hours notice. We are just 65 km from Darwin city via a good bitumen road and conveniently located for you to visit a range of tourist attractions including Window on the Wetlands Visitor Centre, crocodile cruises, fishing, Mary River Wetlands, Bird Billabong; Leaning Tree Lagoon, Digeridoo Hut (Aboriginal art and cultural centre), Litchfield Park, Territory Wildlife Park, Majestic Orchids, and Berry Springs.
