Hostel Description

Bungalow Bay Koala Village is located on World Heritage Magnetic Island just off the coast of Townsville in tropical North Queensland. Bungalow Bay is a 100 bed backpacker YHA resort offering private double/twin and dormitory style bungalows.
Camping is also available, powered or non powered sites in a bush setting with native free ranging wildlife is just a bonus.

The resort is situated on 6 ½ acres of tropical landscape and backs onto the Islands national park. Eucalypts and Melaleuca trees encourage Australia?s native birds and animals to the site, so you can interact with possums, rock wallabies, kookaburras, lorikeets and bush curlews at no extra charge.

Bungalow Bay Koala Village is located just 4 minutes walk to the islands longest beach which is the start of the coastal walking trail which encompasses Balding Bay, Radical Bay, Florence Bay and Arthur Bay. These bays offer snorkeling on fringing reef just off the beach, and opportunities to view white breasted sea eagles, brahmity kites and osprey which also inhabit the area.

Maggie Island as the locals refer, has 23 bays and beaches, you can do as little as you want or as much as you want. You can jetski around the island, sail around the island, bushwalk around the island, jump the beach with a parachute or ride the beach on a horse, you can kayak the waters, swim, dive or fish the waters. Our friendly staff are island locals and will help you with any bookings or information you need. We have accommodation and learn to dive packages available.

Our Koala Sanctuary onsite offers tours three times daily. 10am ? 12noon, 12noon ? 2.00pm and 2.30pm ? 4.30pm.
Experience our native animals, enjoy interactive wildlife talks with our qualified rangers then explore the natural environment and learn about the natural and cultural history of Magnetic Island.
Enjoy a Gourmet Bush Tucker Breakfast with the Koalas. Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Tempt your taste buds with lamb loins encrusted with outback spices, reef fish with bush tomatoes, bacon, eggs, pancakes with lemon myrtle jam and to wash it all down Guava Champagne.
