Quorn, the gateway to the Flinders Ranges National Park, is approximately 340km north of Adelaide, and 40km from Port Augusta and Highway One. It is situated amongst hills at the entrance to Richman Valley.
Quorn's tourist attractions include its many "unspoiled" streetscapes and historic buildings (utilised as sets in various famous Australian movies), numerous bush-walking trails, scenic drives, a real country town atmosphere, and an ideal location to base a Flinders Ranges holiday.
The town is situated 293 metres above sea level, with the highest nearby point being Mount Brown at 965 metres. The climate is classed as Mediterranean, with dry hot summers and cool wetter winters. Situated on the "Goyder Line" (above which rainfall is insufficient to support cereal crop growing), Quorn's annual rainfall is between 250mm and 300mm (10" - 12").
Average temperatures in the Flinders Ranges are, Spring and Autumn 13 degrees to 25 degrees Celsius, Winter 8 degrees to 18 degrees Celsius, Summer 26 degrees to 38 degrees Celsius. Zero temperatures and frosts are not uncommon in our region during late Autumn, Winter and early Spring.
