Book Vietnam's Best Hostels

Australia Hostels

There are only a few traditional hostels in Vietnam, but there are plenty of hotels and guesthouses throughout the country that are perfectly suited to the Vietnam hostel crowd. This is a country where hotels tend to be so cheap that the demand for hostels in Vietnam isn’t too high. The places listed on this site are mainly focused on the needs of budget travelers, so even though there aren’t many traditional Vietnam hostels there are plenty of options here.

Hanoi is the capital and is jammed with the most hotels and guesthouses as well. There is one traditional hostel in the city with cheap dorm beds and community services, but there are plenty of hotels with prices only a bit higher, and sometimes even lower, so you should have no problem finding a place to stay.

Regardless of whether you book a hotel or a hostel in Vietnam you should be careful when selecting your room. It’s not too bad in smaller cities, but in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in particular the noise from the road can be really bad for people sleeping in rooms facing the street. It’s not so much the engine noise, but rather the sound of the incessant honking of horns by all the cars and motorbikes. If you haven’t been to this part of the world yet, you’ll see what this means when you arrive. And ask for a room facing the inside of the building if you have a choice.

Generally speaking you get what you pay for at the hotels and hostels in Vietnam. If you see one place listed at US$10 per night and a place next door listed for $US20 per night you will almost always find the more expensive place to be quite a bit nicer. They don’t play many games with their room prices at the hotels and hostels in Vietnam, particularly if you book on a site like this where they all have to compete alongside one another by offering their best prices.

The great news for the budget traveler with all this is that this is a great country for a bit of a splurge. Many of us budget travelers spend our entire trips going between hostels and 1-star hotels when we want a bit more privacy, but here the hotels and hostels in Vietnam are so cheap that for only a few dollars more than the cheapest place in town you can often book a 3-star place, and for only a few dollars more per night you can even get a 4-star place!

The novelty of booking a private room for US$8 per night is great, but the novelty of booking a really nice private room for $US20 per night is also great. Pay attention to the location when booking Vietnam hostel or hotel, but also look closely at the services offered. If you click around a bit you might find that you can afford a nicer place than you planned on booking for only a bit more.
