Book the Best Hostels in Sydney - Manly

Australia Hostels

Sydney’s other famous beach area is on the other side of the harbor from the Bondi area and a world away in many ways. Manly Beach is the gateway to the northern beach communities of Sydney and its somewhat remote location makes it popular for locals and beach enthusiasts without the busloads of gawking tourists who’ve only come because a place is famous. So if you are looking for some quality beach time in the Sydney area you might consider a quick visit to Bondi or even a night there, but for a longer stay you are likely to be better off booking into a Manly Beach hostel.

Actually, in Australia hostels are usually called “backpackers” so the Manly Beach hostels are will usually go by that name. The Manly Beach area has plenty of bars, particularly around the pedestrian area known as the Corso that serves as the center of town, but they tend to be laid back places for the locals instead of the more manic bar scene in Bondi.

The hotels in Manly Beach tend to be quite expensive by Australian standards, but the Manly Beach hostels are fairly reasonable. There is really only one main large hostel in Manly Beach, but there are many places that are in this general category and all of them are more affordable than the luxury hotels. Also unlike Bondi Beach, Manly Beach goes on for miles and miles and the town isn’t really too concentrated. Bars and restaurants are clustered in the Corso area, but there are many places spread out all behind the beach as well. If you are booking your Bondi Beach hostel for a mellow time along the beach the location isn’t too vital.

Manly Backpackers is the largest hostel in Manly Beach and it’s right in the Corso area that serves as the little city center. Beds in their 4 and 6-bed rooms start around $AUD26 per night and they have free internet and large common facilities as well as free internet. If you want a cheap bed and good access to everything the Manly Backpackers is probably your best bet.

The Manly Guest House doesn’t have dorms, but they do have cheap beds in their private rooms for two or three people. A private triple room starts around $AUD30 per person per night, with private twins and doubles being only a few dollars more. They are only about 100 meters from the beach and also fairly close to the Corso area, so this is a good choice if you are in a small group wanting a private room. They have shared kitchen facilities so you can save money by shopping at the Aldi at the ferry landing and preparing your own food.

The Manly Beach House has a bit of an ironic name because it’s the only hostel in Manly Beach that isn’t actually just a few steps from the waterfront. They don’t have dorm rooms, but they do have a common lounge and kitchen area so their private rooms for between 1 and 3 people are good value. It’s a quiet place that gets high ratings, but they don’t allow alcohol on the premises so if you are looking to party in your room you should probably book at one of the other Manly Beach hostels.
