As Australia’s most famous beach, Bondi gets tons of tourists who just want to get a look in addition to the locals and actual surfers that jam this area pretty much the entire year round. It’s only about 7 km from the center of Sydney so Bondi is easy enough to visit in the morning if you are staying near the city center and you can be back in town for lunch as a bus ride only takes 20 minutes or so. But if you want to stay in the little village surrounding this tiny beach area you are not alone. Hotels in the area are predictably expensive so it’s good that there are several Bondi Beach hostels with cheap beds for budget travelers. Actually, in Australia hostels are usually known as “backpackers” so most Bondi Beach hostels will call themselves backpackers.

The famous beach is actually quite small, and the village that looks over it is fairly small as well. But it’s very popular with travelers so the area is loaded with restaurants, bars, and gift shops. And this is a popular surf spot all year so the place is quite active and fun even when the weather is a bit gloomy. Of course, during the peak summer months and especially on weekends the area is mobbed and places are sold out well in advance. If you are looking for a hostel you should really book it as soon as you can to avoid being disappointed. There aren’t as many hostels in Bondi Beach as there probably should be during peak seasons so you have to act early. Once all the cheap Bondi Beach hostel beds are taken you are left with a few hotels and their prices are much higher.

The Surfside Backpackers Bondi Beach is only about 50 meters from the beach itself so the location doesn’t get any better. They have dorm rooms with between 6 and 12 beds in each with prices starting around $AUD32 per night including breakfast. There is no shortage of good bars in the area, but in case you are super lazy they’ve got two bars attached to the hostel itself.

Noah’s Bondi Beach is also just steps from the beach in the main village area and they are one of the cheaper Bondi Beach hostels. Beds in their 6-bed rooms start around $AUD24 per night, and they’ve also got a few private twin and double rooms available, but they are often sold out well in advance. They’ve got a small bar in the hostel in addition to a rooftop BBQ area overlooking the beach.

Lamrock Lodge on Bondi Beach is on a small street just a very short walk from the beach as well. Their cheapest beds are in their 4-bed dorm rooms starting around $AUD26 per night, but they’ve also got private double and twin rooms for around $AUD32 per person, and private singles for $AUD64 per night. The Lamrock is not as much of a party spot as some other Bondi Beach hostels, but it’s just steps away from loads of bars so this is a good place to stay if you want the nightlife but also want to get to sleep when you are through.
