While there are no traditional hostels in Krabi, there are a few places that do have shared rooms. The Krabi hostels offer cheap dorm rooms in addition to private rooms that can be just as cheap. In addition to the Krabi hostels there are many budget hotels and guesthouses with prices low enough that you might think twice about booking a dorm bed.

Krabi is obviously known for having some of the most amazing beaches in Asia along with easy access to the famous Tiger Cave Temple. The area is quite large although the city center area is fairly compact. When searching for your hostel in Krabi you should look closely to the map on the detail page. Some of the cheaper places are not really in central locations so if you want to enjoy the city as well as the beach areas that is less than ideal.

While the hostels in Krabi aren’t really traditional hostels, they are places where the hostel crowd does tend to gather so they tend to be more social than the other budget hotels in the same price range. With so many travelers coming and going from different directions in Thailand, being able to stay at a hostel in Krabi, or one of the similar budget hotels with shared rooms, is a great way to meet other travelers and get some tips on places to see in your next destination, as well as tips on places to avoid.

Prices for hotels and hostels in Krabi run the gamut from super cheap up to luxury only. One nice thing in this area is that you tend to get what you pay for, or usually more than you pay for compared to typical Western prices and standards. They don’t usually play games with prices in Thailand so if one place is US$10 per night and the place next door is US$20 per night you can be quite sure the more expensive place is nicer.

But that isn’t to say that the cheaper places aren’t well suited to the Krabi hostel crowd. When on a trip around Asia some people want cable TV and air conditioning blasting every hour of the day, which takes some of the point away from visiting a foreign land. The Krabi hostel crowd will find many places to choose from that offer basic accommodations, often in a private room, but with few of the extras.

If you are traveling in pairs finding a private room at one of the Krabi hostels should be easy enough, and you probably won’t have to pay any more for your privacy. For some strange reason the dorm beds at the hostels in Krabi tend to be the same price as beds in the private rooms. Of course for single travelers the dorm bed will be the cheaper option since you’ll have to pay for both beds in the private room in most cases.

Not all the beaches in the area are the same so make sure you are booking in a place that is convenient to the beaches you want to see and not just convenient to “a beach.”
