Book the Best Hostels in Bunbury
Bunbury is the third largest city in Western Australia and its coastal location keeps the climate very pleasant and temperate during the summer. There are about 20 hotels in the city and there are also two hostels in Bunbury for those on a tighter budget. This is one of the fastest growing cities in the country so it’s very likely that new Bunbury hostels will be opening up in the coming years.
The city is located on a peninsula so most of the activities involve the water, but the city itself is pleasant with a compact center. There is a good wine region nearby and a few wildlife preserves as well, so people who get tired of swimming with the dolphins still have plenty to keep themselves busy here.
The city center area is small and surrounded on water by three sides so getting lost is nearly impossible. The heart of the city is Victoria Street, which is where you’ll find dozens of restaurants, cafes, and bars, as well as a movie complex. Both Bunbury hostels are located just a couple short blocks from this strip so either location is ideal. This is a small city, but the nightlife does go on late so it’s a good thing the hostels are just a short stagger from Victoria Street.
And in case you are not from Australia or New Zealand, you should know that hostels in these countries are almost always called “backpackers” but they are essentially the exact same thing. The hostel scene is changing around the world and it’s changing here as well. The days of daytime lock-outs and nighttime curfews are mostly over, and very few places have any kind of age limit anymore.
And hostels are being used not only by young backpackers, but by all kinds of budget travelers. Most hostels in Australia have private rooms in addition to the cheaper dorms, so those of us who like a bit of privacy while we sleep can still save money by staying at one of these places, and we can still meet travelers from all over and participate in the group activities as well.
The Dolphin Retreat Bunbury has beds in their small dorm rooms starting around $AUD24 per night. They also have private rooms for between one and three people with the single rooms being a great deal for the area starting around $AUD40 per night, while the doubles and triples are around $AUD30 per person. This Bunbury hostel has a community kitchen as well as a lounge and game room, but everything in the area is just outside so most visitors don’t need extensive services.
The Wander Inn Bunbury Backpackers is the other proper hostel in Bunbury, and it’s just a couple blocks from the Dolphin Retreat hostel. Their dorm beds start around $AUD23 per night in their 6 and 8-bed rooms, but they’ve also got private rooms for 1, 2, 3, and 5 people. The five-bed private family room is a great deal starting around $AUD17 per person per night.
