Book the Best Hostels in Ayutthaya
As one of the major tourism centers in Thailand it’s no surprise there are quite a few hostels in Ayutthaya to choose from. Prices of hotels in the city are higher than they are in most of the rest of Thailand so it’s great that the Ayutthaya hostels are quite reasonable.
Actually, the hostels in Ayutthaya have quite a range in prices themselves. Only one or two of them offer shared bunk rooms, but all of the hostels in Ayutthaya still fall into the budget range. The city is fairly compact so it’s a good idea to pay close attention to the location of your hostel. Everyone is here to see the ruins of the old city and getting there shouldn’t be a problem, but if you want to make sure you have access to many options for restaurants and bars it’s best to stay at one of the Ayutthaya hostels in the center of the modern city.
And by the way, just as things have changed elsewhere around the globe, the hostels in Ayutthaya are also part of the modern movement. Age limits and curfews are pretty much things of the past so everyone is welcome at these places. There has been a major trend in the last few years for older people to travel around Asia just as younger people have for generations. Since staying in hostels provides so many other benefits for all travelers it’s very likely that you’ll see people in all categories at the Ayutthaya hostels, although the majority will still be the younger backpackers.
The Bann Kun-Pra Guest House and Restaurant is one of the few Ayutthaya hostels that has shared dorm rooms, and these only have 4 beds in each. They have a river view, a restaurant, and a bar. The dorm rooms start around $US9 per night, and some of their double rooms can be even cheaper per person, so if you are traveling as a pair this is a great deal.
The Ayothaya Riverside House also has a rural setting, but with their own restaurant and lounge. Their cheapest beds are in the small private rooms in the main house, starting at only around $US4 per night, but this Ayutthaya hostel also has rooms on a boat in the river. Those rooms are about three times as expensive, but the novelty value is high to it’s worth it to many visitors and they are still only around $US15 per night.
The Ayutthaya Place Youth Hostel doesn’t actually have an age limit, but they are part of the Hostelling International organization so you know they meet the standards of that well-known group. They don’t have shared dorms either, but they do have cheap private rooms each with its own bathroom. Prices start around $US11 per person per night, and are slightly higher for rooms with A/C. If you are coming from March through May it might be worth it to pay for the A/C rooms because it gets scorching and very humid during that period.
